All out of my Hands

I was really crazy tired of that template. Now it's just "blue." I do hope to do something fancier but it'll be a while. I may have to return to college first.

So, Germany won against Argentina. Hard to believe, but in the end I was rooting for Germany. Carlo was a bit pissed because it means Italy has to play Germany (in Germany, where we live). And because he thinks Argentina was the best team in the mix. I personally haven't got the faintest. I'm just sweet on the German goalie.

Italy is playing Ukraine now.
It's all out of my hands, folks.
Even if I go in the bathroom and pray, it won't help.
Even if I avoid the cracks, it won't help.
Even if I sit just so, with my back straight, it means nothing.
Even if I get through the light before it's red, it'll do nothing.
Even if I leave the room and fix snacks, my absence é niente.
I don't even like sports.
I can hope all I want.
I can holler like a man.
I can just calm down.

It was a surprising win. When they won I was happy, sorry! You could hear the neighborhood going bananas. I felt bad for Argentina, though; they should have won.

Well, you know, I know next to nothing about the Italian team but my husband is Italian and it's all political. He says he doesn't want Germany to beat Italy because he'll have to listen to for the next four years and the Germans are getting all full of themselves. So what happens after he leaves to watch the game with the kids in the local Italian restaurant? My neighbor calls to wish the Italians luck, and to say how glad she is the Germans won because it helps them build a positive sense of identity. blah blah blah I think the whole country has gone crazy, or actually all of Europe has gone crazy since other than Brazil it's only "Old Europe" that's left.

I was thinking of you when they won.
I think that goalie is a hottie, too. Maybe not as cute as Beckham, but pretty close.
According to my husband, and I do agree, Germany's participation in the final is sort of "scripted", as much as possible.

The whole celebrity beckham thing makes me kind of sick. i understand he and his very cultured accomplished wife were making fun of what in England they call "chav," and it turns out the beckhams were married in matching purple outfits on matching purple thrones. can it get any better than that? "Chav" is kind of the british equivalent of "white trash."

i hate corruption. well, who doesn't? but in sports I like to think it isn't so, and that the wins can't easily be scripted. In this case because there weren't any obviously bad calls in the game, and the opposing team would never go along with it even for money. i like to think so anyway. lord knows i've been wrong before.

you really like the looks of jens lehmann, ladies?? ahhh come ON! there aren't any hotties i have seen when i passed through the living room or joined my husband briefly. disappointing really. *L* beckham - ugh. he used to be rather cute for a while, but those days are long gone, it seems. he looks sick and stressed, and certainly not cute anymore, IMO. must be his wife. ;)

and yes, germans already are so full of themselves, nobody here wants them to win. england - portugal seems boring. i am not really watching, but sepp is. i don't care who wins, really.

ah well. m

Oh, believe me, when there is plenty of corruption in soccer. You'll see. I'll bet Germany will be in the final. (of course, now that I've declared this in writing, it won't happen just so I'll look dumb!) There were a lot of bad calls in their win prior to this one...mostly offsides stuff.

Regarding Beckham,...I don't follow any of that stuff. I usually prefer dark brunettes anyway. He does sound rather obnoxious.

BTW, your list in this post is really funny!

I didn't know (or I forgot) that your husband is Italian. How/Where did you meet? What part is he from?

could be. all germany has to do is beat italy and they're in the final. not easy, but not the hardest task. I don't know. I still don't think it's fixed. it's too hard to pull off under the eyes of the world.

my husband is from Sardinia. we met in Frankfurt years ago when I still thought I was, you know, going back home to America...

sigh

Hi Sarah

I'm still plugging away with your template. I'm on incarnation 3, and it's still cheese-y.

I've been fighting a summer cold this week. Go GERMany.

d'you know, carl, we used to call the germans "germs" when i was younger and travelled a lot and noticed that they are, literally, everywhere, even in the remotest spots. *L*

thanks, carl. no problem. this will surely hold me over! I hope you are feeling better soon. summer colds are the worst.
