What is the world coming to

Dear Editors,

I’m writing to express my concern about your rejection of my poem “This Leaf Breeds Safekeeping.” I think you are making a big mistake.

It occurs to me that you have missed the premise of my poem completely. Morgan, the speaker, is not a florist – she just dreams she is. In fact she is an avocado pit propped up to grow in a glass of water. That should help explain the “toothpick bit” you refer to. I thought it was obvious!

Further, the segment in the past tense is a Flashback. That’s why it’s in the past tense! The rest of the poem is in the present tense.

You will be glad to know my poem is still available. I have changed the title to “Tooth for a Tooth,” so you may want to reconsider your tart rejection.

Thank you for your time. I hope this helps.

lol! Now, That's a prose poem! I have a note from an editor that said for three dollars a poem he would tell me how to make the poems I submitted better. But, there is still no guarantee that he'd publish them.

hmmm...

Ha! I love it. I just had a rejection that said 'after much discussion and close reading' - maybe they didn't read close enough after all.

karen, that costs 5 dollars a poem.

glad y'all had a laugh. I've gotten a lot of rejections lately and, you know, need comfort.

Great tongue in tooth post, Sarah. Did you ever notice how everything seems to happen in cycles from the up/down years of child-rearing to the acceptance/rejection of poetry? I can't imagine editors obtuse enough to reject your poems but then my imagination is in pause (hopefully temporary) mode right now. I would use that letter somewhere.

By the way, is that word verification thing on the up and up or another humorous aside?

That word verfication thing is REAL! Real and sponsored by BLOGGER! Can you believe this is my blog and even I have to do that word verification THING! which i am often getting wrong. I mean, why MAKE it difficult?

Anyway, thanks for stopping in Johanna. I do hope there are, say, 8 or 9 acceptances coming my way in the next week or so.
